Bates Creek Watershed Restoration Project
These pictures were taken by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department to illustrate both natural (prescribed fire) and mechanical means utilized in habitat manipulation (i.e., vegetative treatment) efforts designed to minimize conifer encroachment in big game habitat and also to stimulate aspen regeneration in old growth (decadent) aspen stands. These vegetative treatments were designed primarily to benefit elk, but also benefit a number of other game and non-game species including mule deer, blue and sage grouse, as well as neo-tropical migratory birds. The Bates Creek Watershed Restoration Project was supported by the Central Wyoming Chapter through our donations to the Wyoming Wildlife and Natural Resource Trust.
